*first time in cusco (yes, i already know there will be more)

i still havent recovered a 100% so i take it easy here. or maybe this is just an excuse to laze about a bit. agnes has been here for a while and is doing a spanish course so i set off to walk around this trully beautiful colonial city nested among green andean hills. when the spaniards came here in the 16th centuary they destroyed most of the inka buildings and replaced them with thier own mansions and churches. the walls and the fundaments remained the same and can still be seen in a form of tightly fitted huge blocks of rock. the planet says that in the 12th centuary the sun god inti ordered the first inka to find a navel of the earth (qosq´o) and the later decided that it was where it is. truly good spot for the centre of the earth. i go to qorikancha and wander around the market. i visit the main cathedral, where the crucified Christ is black and at their version of the Last Supper they dine over a guine pig (it is a local delicacy). i hang around the plaza de armas (so so pictaresque!!!) and climb up to saqsaywaman to see the site of the mayor battle, where according to the history were lying so many dead bodies that condors feasted for days...
easter is starting (with the celebration of the plam sunday) so i get to see colourful processions with the palm leaves and street dances during which men and women do some bird-like-flight-dances around the main plaza. on monday morning town is so packed with people processing with the black Christ that i can hardly make it to the bus station to catch my bus to arequipa. as agnieszka has decided to take another week of the spanish classes (which i really would need too) im going to arequipa and canon colca. i will be back to celebrate easter and agnes´s birthday.
